Located in Yunhuang Mountain of Tashan County, the scenic zone boasts two ancient temples of a thousand years old—Shuanglin Temple and Yunhuang Temple. The natural beauty, the cultural content and Buddhism culture are melted together, making it charming ever-luster.
It is reported that Shuanglin Temple was built in South Liang Dynasty and opened by senior bonze Fu Dashi. For 15 centuries it was famous for its large scale and senior bonzes coming forth in great number. In North Song Dynasty, there were 1200 rooms for 2000 monks and nuns. And it enjoyed the reputation of “the First in China” or “NO.3 in the world”. However, in 1958, the temple was totally destroyed during the big Lunge Movement. In 1986, the local people rebuilt the temple besides Shuanglin Reservoir. In June of 1994, the Municipal People’s Government decided to renovate the temple and exploit it into a scenic zone. In 1997, a solemn temple with vivid Buddhas, 1.6 meters higher than Linyin Temple in Hangzhou, stands at the foot of Yunhuang Mountain. The iron tower has undergone thousands of years of wind and rain, now still is standing besides. It is said that senior bonze Fu Dashi built a pagoda of three rooms on a small concave at the top of the mountain for cultivating himself calmly and gave it a name of Yunhuang Temple. Later part of Fu Dashi’s cremains was buries in the pagoda. Standing beside the pagoda, you will find the great quietness with green pine trees and bamboos, and the whole landscape appears to you.
